Noctis
Two against two on the planet's night side. Mars canyons between mesas, a dome for a bomb site, and Earth nearly full overhead while a silent space battle goes on above.
Canyons under a full Earth
Noctis takes Dayside's plan to the southern half and rebuilds it as Mars canyons at night. The Ts drop in at the DROP ZONE, three pods in small craters of their own; the CTs hold the BASTION, a rock shelf with a command bunker and a railgun. THE DOME, site A, sits between them on the CT side.
The Ts have two ways in: CANYON, an 8-metre floor between mesas with a wrecked frigate across it halfway, and the LAVA TUBE, roofed rock. Mid is the CRATER at the pole, 21 metres across, linked to the canyon by CAT STAIRS and to the tube by the FISSURE.
The sky never moves: Earth hangs nearly full, high over the dome, and every playable metre lies in the night.
Who gets there first
About 13 seconds to either T door; the CTs are home in under three.
| Route | Length | At a run |
|---|---|---|
| T spawn → CANYON door | 81 m | 12.8 s |
| T spawn → TUBE door | 82 m | 12.9 s |
| T spawn → the crater | 50 m | 7.9 s |
| CT spawn → CT door | 17 m | 2.7 s |
| CT spawn → the VIEWPORT | 41 m | 6.4 s |
| CT rotation, CANYON door ↔ TUBE door | 26 m | 4.1 s |
At the top run speed, with a knife or a pistol out: 250 units a second, 6.35 m/s. Rifles are slower.
The Dome
A ring of wall 25 metres across and 4.2 high under a geodesic shell. CANYON's door is on the east, the TUBE's on the west, the CTs' on the north. The bomb can be planted anywhere inside the ring.
ASite AThe Dome
- Each T door opens into an AIRLOCK, a walled vestibule outside the ring; the Ts stack beside the airlocks, out of sight of the dome.
- The spine, CORE, RACK and VAT, blocks every line from one T door to the other.
- TERRACE, a 1.6-metre deck in the north-west, and the VIEWPORT, a firing port over the crater.
The routes
Two T routes, a crater mid that joins both, and two ways out for the CTs.
| Route | Into | The chokepoint |
|---|---|---|
| CANYON | A, east door, by CANYON AIRLOCK | The WRECK: a frigate's hull across the canyon, the way through a breach 3 metres wide; then the crest and CANYON CORNER |
| LAVA TUBE | A, west door, by TUBE AIRLOCK | A roofed rock tube, 14 metres long and 3.4 wide, with work lights |
| CRATER > CAT | A, east door | Crossing the crater in view of the VIEWPORT, then CAT STAIRS |
| CRATER > FISSURE | A, west door | The FISSURE's airlock hatch, a 2.4-metre door halfway |
| GRAND STAIRS | The CT door | Five steps down off the BASTION |
| TRENCH | CANYON CORNER | Stairs off the bastion, then a sandbagged slot between mesas |
