Elysium
A human colony on Mars, at war. The whole planet again, but the Sun stands still: site A lies in daylight among the greenhouses, site B in the night town by the lab.
Day on one side, night on the other
The CTs spawn at HQ, the medbay on the north pole; the Ts at the LZ on the south pole. A, GREENHOUSES and B, LAB sit 45° from HQ on opposite sides. The equator is the FRONT, an 11-metre ring road.
The Sun never moves on Elysium. The A half is day and open rock; the B half is night, 35° past the terminator, and full of the colony's town. A Mars sky hangs over both: a small Sun, Phobos and Deimos, and Earth as a blue point.
Six T lanes climb to the sites, three to each. Two CT roads run down to the mids, AMBULANCE in the east and FIGHTER in the west, each through MID DOORS. Where A's south lane crosses the front lies the CRATER, 26 metres across and 3 deep, crossable anywhere.
Who gets there first
The CTs set up with time to spare, and the Ts have three ways into each site.
| Route | Length | At a run |
|---|---|---|
| T spawn → A, CRATER door | 114 m | 17.9 s |
| T spawn → A, WRECK / TRENCH doors | 132-133 m | 20.8-21.0 s |
| T spawn → B, PIPES door | 114 m | 17.9 s |
| T spawn → B, DORMS / VENUS doors | 133 m | 20.9 s |
| CT spawn → either site's CT door | 30 m | 4.7 s |
| CT spawn → MID DOORS | 57 m | 8.9 s |
| T spawn → a mid | 103-106 m | 16.2-16.7 s |
| CT rotation A ↔ B | 91 m | 14.4 s |
| T rotation, WRECK ↔ VENUS stacks | 88 m | 13.8 s |
At the top run speed, with a knife or a pistol out: 250 units a second, 6.35 m/s. Rifles are slower.
Greenhouses and Lab
Each site is a walled compound, 26 by 22 metres, with three T doors and a CT door on the north wall.
ASite AGreenhouses
- The colony's farm, in full sun. Frosted greenhouses block sight: one walls the west door off from the south, another the south door from the east.
- TOWER, a water-tower deck 1.3 metres up in the north-west, watches the south door; HYDRO's waist-high tanks and a container watch the east door.
- The geodesic DOME stands by the east door, and every door has cover right inside it.
BSite BLab
- Night, lit by the lab's lamp, the red beacon on SAT and the cyan specimen TANKS. Lit windows turn players into silhouettes.
- The LAB in the north-west has a WINDOW over the south door; server RACKS give full cover in the north half.
- SAT, a crashed satellite, splits the east half; its WING lies waist-high along the south wall, and a solar array stands on end by the west door.
The six lanes
Each lane has its own kind of chokepoint before its site.
| Lane | Into | The chokepoint |
|---|---|---|
| CRATER | A, south door | The CRATER on the front, then the GATE: a checkpoint wall with an off-centre 3-metre door |
| WRECK | A, east door | A starship's hull across the lane; the way through is a corridor 3.2 metres wide and 12 long |
| TRENCH | A, west door | Three tall sandbag berms from alternate sides, then the NEST |
| PIPES | B, south door | A roofed utility tunnel, 14 metres long and 3.4 wide, in red emergency light |
| VENUS | B, west door | The club across the lane: in the front door, past the BAR and the STAGE, out the BACKDOOR |
| DORMS | B, east door | A collapsed dormitory: three rubble heaps from alternate sides |
