Playing without an account
Practice and LAN play need no account and store nothing about you. Online play uses a WARSPACE account, which you create by signing in with Discord. There is no other kind of registration, no password and no form. You need a Discord account, so Discord's minimum age applies.
Signing in, and the WARSPACE Discord server
- Signing in asks Discord for two permissions: to read your Discord profile, and to join servers for you. The game tells you this next to every sign-in button, before you go to Discord, and Discord asks you to allow it.
- With them the game creates or updates your account and adds you to the WARSPACE Discord server. Discord's token is used for these two things only, then revoked and discarded.
- On the server, the game's bot gives you the role of your rank: the higher of your 5v5 and 2v2 ranks this season, once you have played your first 10 ranked matches. It changes the role when your rank changes, and leaves your other roles alone. To do this it reads only whether you are on the server and which roles you have. It never reads your messages.
- You can leave the server at any time in Discord. You are added again the next time you sign in, with the same notice before you go, or when you press Join the WARSPACE Discord on your account card.
What an account stores
- Your Discord id, username, display name and avatar id, refreshed each time you sign in.
- When your Discord account was created (read from the id), when you joined WARSPACE and when you last signed in.
- Your progress: XP and level.
- Ranked: for each mode and season, your rating, rank, wins, losses, streak and best rating, and when you last played a ranked match.
- Your part in finished online matches: the name you played under, your team, the rounds you played and won, kills, deaths, headshots, damage, whether you left early, and the XP and rating it gave or took.
- Cooldowns: when you left a ranked match early, and how long each cooldown lasted.
- Your sign-ins: one entry for each device you are signed in on, kept as a one-way hash, for at most 60 days.
- The WARSPACE Discord server: whether you are on it, the rank role the game last gave you, and when it last checked.
- Your game settings, so they follow you to any device you sign in on: the options (mouse, video, audio, game and network), your keys, your crosshair and your BUY picks, and when you last changed them. Only you see them. Signing out leaves them on that device as they are.
What other players see
- In rooms: your Discord display name, your level and your rank badge.
- The leaderboard, which anyone can open, lists the current season's top players once they have played their first 10 ranked matches: display name, Discord id, avatar, rank, rating, wins and losses.
- Your match history (CAREER · MATCHES) is shown only to you. The scoreboard of a finished online match (each signed-in player's name, team, kills, deaths, damage, rounds played, whether they left early and, in ranked, their rating change) is shown only to the players who were in that match. Bots are not on it, and a player who has deleted their account appears without a name.
Moderation
When the game's staff act on an account (a ban, a cooldown set by hand, a rating reset), the action is recorded with its Discord id. That record stays after the account is deleted, to stop abuse. A game server can also ban an IP address, which then stays on that server's list until it is lifted.
Logs, and who runs the service
- The game servers write your IP address and player name to their logs when you join a room, when a connection is refused, and in their anti-cheat checks. These logs are deleted after 14 days.
- Sign-in and community-map publishing are rate-limited with one-way hashes of your IP address. The counters are deleted after 48 hours. A map report keeps such a hash until the report is cleared or the map is deleted, so one address counts once.
- The service runs on Discord (sign-in, the WARSPACE server, avatar pictures), Cloudflare (the account service and its database, in Eastern Europe, and the map store) and Amazon Web Services (the website, and the game servers in Israel and the eastern United States). They handle connection data, such as your IP address, to deliver it.
- Nothing is sold or shared with anyone else. There are no ads and no trackers.
What is never touched
- Your email address: the game never asks Discord for it.
- Your Discord messages, friends and other servers: never asked for.
- Passwords: there are none.
Community maps
Publishing a map in CREATORS needs no account. It stores the map, its picture, its name and description, and the creator name you type, all of them public. Your browser keeps a private creator key to update or delete your maps, and the store keeps only a one-way hash of it. Deleting a map takes it off the list, but its file can stay reachable at its exact address.
Erasing everything
Open your account card in the game's menu and choose Delete account. Your profile, sign-ins, ratings, cooldowns, saved settings and Discord-server record are deleted at once, and your rank role comes off the server. Your rows in finished matches stay, anonymised, so other players' results stay whole. The server logs expire within 14 days, and moderation records stay (see above). Deleting the account does not take you off the WARSPACE Discord server: leave it in Discord. Signing in again later starts a fresh account.
Why the game uses it
- To run your account and online play: sign-in, rooms, XP, ranked, the leaderboard and your settings. This is the service you ask for when you sign in.
- To keep play fair and the service safe: rate limits, logs, anti-cheat checks, cooldowns and moderation. The game and its players need this.
- Ranked ratings, ranks and cooldowns are worked out automatically from match results, by the rules on the game's How ranked works page. Bans are decided by people.
- Nothing is used for ads, and nothing is sold.
Your browser's storage
- The game uses no advertising or tracking cookies. During a sign-in, the account service sets one cookie that holds that sign-in's own state; it is deleted when you come back from Discord, or after 10 minutes.
- The game keeps these in your browser, on your device: your settings, keys, crosshair and BUY picks; what it remembers between visits (the last map and side, the tabs you had open, your ranked queue and maps, server pings); your session while you are signed in; and for CREATORS, your maps, your creator key and the maps you opened recently. Some last only for the visit: the address to come back to after a sign-in, a room's password and a room's host key.
- None of it is used to track you. Clearing the site's data in your browser erases it. Signed in, your settings come back from your account.
Children
WARSPACE accounts are for people 13 or older who are old enough to use Discord where they live (see the terms). We do not knowingly keep an account of anyone younger. If you think a child under that age has one, write to us and we will delete it. Practice and LAN store nothing about anyone.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of the data about you (in a form you can reuse), to correct it, to delete it (Delete account does that at once), or to stop or limit a use of it. We answer within 30 days. If you are not happy with the answer, you can complain to a data protection authority: in Israel the Privacy Protection Authority, and in the European Union or the United Kingdom the one in your country.
Where it is kept, and how it is protected
- Accounts are kept in Cloudflare's data centres in Eastern Europe. The game servers are in Israel and the eastern United States, and Discord is in the United States.
- The European Union recognises Israel's protection of personal data as adequate. For the United States, our hosting providers' data protection terms include the safeguards EU law accepts for such transfers.
- Online play and sign-in run over encrypted connections. The account database is encrypted at rest, sign-ins are kept only as one-way hashes, and Discord's tokens are discarded at once.
- If a security breach puts your data at risk, we report it to the authorities as the law requires, and tell players on the site and on the WARSPACE Discord server.
Changes to this page
When this page changes, so does the date at the top. When a change matters to players, we say so in the game or on the WARSPACE Discord server before it takes effect.
Questions
The WARSPACE team runs the game and is responsible for the data on this page. To ask about your data, for a copy of it or for a correction, email official@warspace.gg, or write to the WARSPACE team on the WARSPACE Discord server.
